A few million grinders in the wild and all of them pretty dumb. We wondered how we could smarten up the existing installed base of grinders without having to re-wire them, rebuild them or spend the afternoon trying to modify them. The solution was actually pretty simple:
A central controller that plugs into any wall outlet (100v to 250v AC) and independently controls two grinders. The controller by itself monitors the grind time and motor load of each grinder, calculating mill wear, amperage or overloads, usage patterns and consumption. Coupled with the Tappe controller, it converts any attached grinder into a time-based portion control grinder. An optional Bluetooth scale converts shop grinders into a weight controlled on-demand grinder.
The controller can communicate with several other Bluetooth devices and that calculate shot times and weights to adjust grind times. This ensures better quality control, reporting back results to the cloud in real time.
It can even send text alerts to adjust the grinder, replace mills or notify of a fault and call for service.
